Here’s a message from our friends at Leicester Design Season:
Unbelievably we are at our 5th Leicester Design Season this year. Based largely at the LCB Depot this year, the season now boasts partners from the city’s creative design industries (known as Design Leicester) and Higher Education – both courses and academics. This year we have a season of 20 events and exhibitions which spans textiles, digital design, architecture and comprises talks, workshops and an exhibition. Design Season aims to contribute to a fresh contemporary narrative for the city using the creative design sector to do that.

Five unmissable Programme highlights
1) Urbanism in Focus. A day of events – Tuesday, 12 October – from the Urban Observatory (part of the Leicester City Council-Higher Education Civic Partnership) which look at issues relating to the urban environment and how we live.
12.00pm Urban Research – A session looking at urban research across the region and following Leicester’s growing case as a leader in this new exciting field. BOOK HERE
2.00pm Urban Cafe – You are invited to bring and eat a lunch together that holds meaning for you in terms of family, heritage and lived experience. BOOK HERE
6.00pm. Urbanism and the Built Environment – Grant Butterworth, Head of Planning at Leicester City Council, will chair presentations from leading Built Environment professionals and academics BOOK HERE
2) Textile Takeover. 10.00-4.00pm Saturday, 15 October
Led by textile designers Alison Carpenter-Hughes and Rebecca Hobbs, we present a day of textile-related activity and workshops promoting skills and the circular economy. Hosted at LCB Depot with Grays Kitchen open all day. The takeover day is the first step towards the first ever @Leicester Textiles Festival planned for 2023. BOOK HERE
3) The State of Creative AI. 13 October 5.00pm – 6.30 pm
A Talk by Luba Elliott. Internationally renowned independent researcher and academic, Luba Elliott will present and discuss some of the most up to date contemporary applications of AI. This event continues Design Season’s partnership with the Arts AI Festival led by DMU. BOOK HERE
4) Ancient Giants: Design Dance and Martial Arts. 19 October 5.30pm – 7.00pm
Jiten Anand CEO of award-winning cultural producer Inspirate chairs talks and presentations from UK partners and looks at the role and value of working with design and designers to produce cultural festivals including Leicester’s recent Diwali celebrations BOOK HERE
5) ALL IN: 18 October 5.00pm – 8.00 pm
Design Leicester is a loose collective of designers and academics who are key to Leicester Design Season. The ALL In group, which grew out of Design Season, presents their work, success and progress – a design-led initiative looking at best practice in inclusive access and design in venues.
