In this session, Jonathan Cumming will draw on his venture capital and angel investor experience to advise businesses seeking investment for ClimateTech ventures. In particular, he’ll discuss some of the tools used by Carbon13 to analyse the credibility of carbon removal and mitigation stories.

Jonathan will cover everything from business administration through to the strategic considerations around the scalability, defensibility and finance ability of your venture, including:

  • Key questions to ask yourself about your carbon story
  • Common pitfalls and how to avoid them
  • Optimisation strategies to help ensure success
  • How to balance running a business with customer engagement.

Speaker bio:

Jonathan has 30+ years of experience in business and finance. He worked in commercial real estate before joining Barclays, where he focused on investment banking for seven years. In 2000, he became CFO of a Spanish cable telecommunications startup, which he helped consolidate and sell to Vodafone for $10 billion. Later, as CFO of a global media conglomerate, he successfully turned around a group with 130 companies across 30 countries, increasing EBITDA to over €100 million. The conglomerate was acquired for €2 billion in 2018. Jonathan then advised private equity, corporate venture capital, and hedge funds on media sector investments while teaching economics and business studies. He served as a non-executive director for companies in Spain and the UK. In autumn 2021, he joined Carbon13 as COO and CFO.
