If you are unsure about what you need to do to make your business more sustainable and reduce your carbon emissions and are working for or with an SME based or trading in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland, then through this course you will get the knowledge and tools to set you off on the right path. No previous environmental knowledge is needed.
Carbon Literacy is: “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”
By the end of the course, you will:
• Understand and explain the science around climate change and how it affects us globally and locally
• Have the tools and knowledge to reduce the carbon impact of your business
• Build your own climate pledges to take action on climate change
About the training
Training is taking place on:
- Thursday, 25th May AND Friday, 26th May 2023, 9:30-13:00 (please note: you must attend both sessions).
The course requires 8 hours of learning, which is delivered via Zoom through 2 X 3.5 hour sessions and 1 hour of home based activity. It will consist of a mixture of presentations, group activities, videos, quizzes and games. Please ensure you have a WiFi/internet connection and adequate equipment that enables you to fully participate in the course (it is not recommended to do the course via iPhone/Smartphone). You will get the best out of the training if you use a laptop or PC (with a camera).
To receive the Carbon Literacy certification, you will need to attend both sessions and submit an assessment form at the end of the course. This will be checked by the Carbon Literacy Project to ensure it meets their criteria. More information can be found here: https://carbonliteracy.com/about-us/
The training is being delivered through a collaboration between De Montfort University, the University of Leicester and Lorent Training.
The event will be facilitated by Christiane Startin-Lorent, Carbon Literacy Trainer and owner of Lorent Training.
Eligibility criteria to take part in this fully funded course
Your business needs to be registered or trading in either Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland. If it is based outside of these areas but still within the East Midlands, then please email zerocarbon@dmu.ac.uk to register your interest in case there are any places being made available.
