Flood support for Leicestershire

10 January 2024

Leicestershire County Council have provided an update on flood support. There are reported to be 400 residential and commercial properties affected by last week’s flood in the county.

Leicestershire has qualified for the National Flood Recover Framework which means affected communities and businesses (on a set period from between 2nd January 2024 and 8th January 2024) can access the following support.

The Government has agreed to release funding to help flood-hit residents and businesses – The Council will let you know how you can apply for this as soon as possible.

To help unlock funding, it’s important they know if you’ve been flooded. Complete this simple form.

The support is listed below:

Community Recovery Grant: Eligible local authorities will receive funding equivalent to £500 per flooded household to help households in areas severely affected by the flooding with their immediate recovery. This grant will be administrated by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).

Business Recovery Grant: Eligible local authorities will receive £2,500 per small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) to support businesses that have suffered severe impacts from the floods. This grant will be administrated by the Department for Business and Trade.

Council Tax Discount: The Government will reimburse eligible local authorities for the cost of providing 100% council tax relief, for a minimum of three months, for residents whose property has been flooded, or which is considered unliveable, as a consequence of Storm Henk. This grant will be administrated by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Business Rates Relief: The Government will reimburse eligible local authorities for the cost of providing 100% relief from business rates, for a minimum of three months, for those businesses directly impacted by Storm Henk. This grant will be administrated via the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Property Flood Resilience Repair Grant Scheme: grants of up to £5,000 will be made available to eligible local authorities to help homes and businesses to become more resilient to flooding by helping to pay for a range of property improvements. This grant will be administrated via the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Farming Recovery Fund: Farmers who have suffered uninsurable damage to their land will be able to apply for grants of up to £25,000 towards repair and reinstatement costs for farmers adversely affected by exceptional flooding.
