Businesses Invited to Shape Future of Public Procurement: Have Your Say

8 July 2025

The Cabinet Office has launched a 10-week public consultation on reforms to public procurement, designed to strengthen British industry, create jobs, and boost skills across the workforce. The consultation is open now and closes on Friday, 5th September.

For small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), this is a key opportunity to influence how public sector contracts are awarded in future and ensure procurement processes better support the growth of smaller businesses.

The proposed reforms build on the Government’s recently published Industrial Strategy, which sets out plans to drive innovation and productivity across the UK economy. By reshaping procurement rules, the Government aims to make it easier for UK-based businesses – particularly SMEs – to compete for and deliver public contracts.

The Government is seeking input from businesses of all sizes, but especially SMEs, to ensure the reforms meet the needs of a diverse supplier base.
