What will we cover?

A video introduction to Space Park Leicester

Welcome from the LLEP and the official launch of Innovation Week 2021.  Why we’re spotlighting Space Park Leicester and what’s coming up in Innovation Week.

Prof Martin Barstow, Chief Executive of Leicester Space Park (SPL) shares the project’s journey to completion and its future role in Leicester’s economic recovery.  Martin will set space research and the industry opportunities within the context of being a national priority, highlighting the importance of Leicester and the East Midlands.  He will also show how SPL is linked to other locations such as Harwell, Surrey and launch sites.

Susie Imber asks the question ‘Why is Space Important to you?’ by demonstrating what is to come and what it means for Leicester in terms of skilled jobs, new technology developments and the impact on climate change.  Space has already influenced some everyday products which may surprise you.  In 2017 Susie was the winner of the BBC2 series Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes?

Will Wells from SPL and Dan Wicks from Satellite Applications Catapult will present on local engagement, the offer to industry and the impact of space for SMEs, METEOR partners and how local activity will grow the supply chain.

Rachel Tidmarsh of Blue Sky International will share her innovation journey which included engaging with the University of Leicester and the Business Gateway; and how Blue Sky have been able to use space-enabled technology and data to enhance their service.

Dean Cook of Innovate UK will look at the Innovation Strategy and opportunities for funding, R&D and further innovation.

The panel discussion and audience Q&A will be chaired by Chas Bishop of the NSC.

Dr Nik Kotecha OBE (LLEP Innovation Board Chair) will conclude the event and encourage guests to stay and network.
