Are you a local SME with a Healthcare or Life Science focus, could your product benefit from expert clinical or life science input or are you looking to innovate and develop new products?  This event will outline the expertise available from the University of Leicester as part of their New Life Sciences Accelerator part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund in partnership with The Midlands Engine.

Leicester and Leicestershire SME’s can work with the University of Leicester more easily through the Leicester Life Science Accelerator project.  The project is offering dedicated specialist innovation  support using the following mechanisms:

Linking SME’s with the clinical/academic environment to accelerate product development

Leicester and Leicestershire SME’s can work with the University of Leicester more easily through the Leicester Life Science Accelerator project.  The project is offering dedicated specialist innovation  support using the following mechanisms:

Linking SME’s with the clinical/academic environment to accelerate product development

The innovation/business support project team will:

·         Use expert knowledge of the subject area to link companies to the expert academics,  clinicians at Leicester or to other groups such as Medilink/EMAHSN

·         Be able to give initial advice on IP and signpost to IP experts

·         Give advice on routes to access Clinical trials

·         Organise Patient Public Involvement events for product development

·         Demonstration of latest technologies and methodologies

·         Provide a collaborative space to develop new ideas

Developing collaborative projects and obtaining external funding such as Innovate UK/UKRI or venture capital investment

The project support team will:

·         Give advice on current/new funding routes

·         Identify what routes may be the most successful

·         Help identify what data/information/proof of concept may be required to develop successful funding

·         Provide advice and expertise with experimental design/scientific method

·         Broker relationships between partners or academic experts to develop grant funding applications

·         Facilitate match making with VC funds

Start-up incubation services

The project team will also support pre-start-up and early stage businesses/individuals to realise their innovative ideas, enabling them to

·         Work collaboratively to undertake feasibility studies

·         Prototype and pilot their ideas in the market place

·         Secure early seed investment

·         Network with their peers

·         Showcase, promote and market their innovations

·         Validate and test their concepts for market fit/and pull

·         Market research and IP white space potential
