Coronavirus testing made available for key workers

24 April 2020

Up to 10 million people qualify for a free coronavirus test after the criteria was expanded to include all essential workers and their families.

The list of essential workers is the same as the one used to allow the children of key workers to carry on going to school during the lockdown.

Workers are able to book a test online, where initially 5000 tests were made available.  However, it was revealed that 46,000 workers tried to apply for a kit when the website first opened.

More tests are being made available and workers are encouraged to keep trying to obtain a test.  The extended testing of coronavirus is part of the government strategy to reduce the spread of the virus and enable key workers to return to work safely.
